An off-the-rack club is built for a man of 178 cm with average arm length and a swing speed around 90 mph. If you are not precisely that person, you are playing a club that was not designed for you. The question is not whether it fits, but how badly it does not.
The most important parameter is lie angle — the angle of the shaft to the ground at impact. If the heel sits lower than the toe at impact, the face points left and so does the ball. On a 7-iron, two degrees of error moves the shot seven to nine metres offline over a hundred and ten metres. That is the difference between the green and the bunker.
The second is length. Too long and you stand too upright at address and swing flatter to compensate. Too short does the reverse. Most players who arrive with their own set are half an inch to an inch too long, because they bought a standard build without measuring anything.
Shaft flex is chosen by speed and tempo, not by what sounds manly. A player swinging at 82 mph in S flex loses launch height and with it carry — typically seven to twelve metres on a 7-iron. Regular, or even A flex, is not an embarrassment. It is physics.
Our fittings run on Trackman and take 60 to 120 minutes depending on scope. We measure clubhead speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin, attack angle and dispersion. You hit real heads and shafts rather than a catalogue — we keep about forty combinations in stock. You leave with a printed report.
Cost: €60 for a driver fitting, €90 for a full bag. Buy the clubs from us and we deduct that from the purchase, which effectively makes it free. Decide not to buy and the report is yours to keep and to order from anywhere you like.
When fitting does not make sense: in your first three months, when your swing changes weekly. Then we suggest a cheap complete set and a fitting a year later once the motion settles. For everyone else it is the best sixty euros in the whole bag.
